Due to the ongoing pandemic and at the suggestion of The Central Ohio Mayors and Managers Association and the Franklin County Township Association, the BCA’s annual summer event will look a bit different this year. While we had originally planned a complete and exciting overhaul of our summer event, those plans will have to wait until next year. We feel it’s important to help keep our residents as safe and healthy as possible, so we’ve come up with a socially-distanced alternative.
This year, the BCA is hosting a week-long Spirit Week beginning Sunday, June 21 that will include four fun contests and two visiting food trucks. Throughout the week, residents are welcome and encouraged to enter into any or all of the following contests:
Chalk the Walk Contest: Put your Brookside and patriotic pride on display by decorating your sidewalks and driveway with colorful sidewalk chalk. Your fellow residents are sure to love your designs and messages as they walk through our neighborhood. Prizes will be awarded to the three households with the most votes.
1st Place: $50 VISA gift card
2nd Place: $25 gift card to JT’s Pizza & Pub
3rd Place: $15 gift card to JT’s Pizza & Pub
Bike / Scooter / Wagon Decorating Contest: We’re taking this beloved, annual contest online this year! Children are invited to decorate their bike, scooter or wagon in festive, patriotic gear for a chance to win one of three awesome gift baskets filled with games, activities and toys. All participants will receive a fun BCA medal for their participation, and gift basket prizes will be awarded to the three children who receive the most votes.
1st Place: Gift basket full of fun ($50 value)
2nd Place: Gift basket full of fun ($30 value)
3rd Place: Gift basket full of fun ($20 value)
Pet Dress-Up Contest: Back in the day, the BCA included this fun contest in its annual Summer Event, and we’re bringing it back! Get your furry family members to join in the fun by dressing them up and snapping their photo! Any theme goes, but be sure to keep it family-friendly. And yes, we’ve got Fido covered, too. Prizes will be awarded to the three pets with the most votes!
1st Place: $35 gift card to Mutts & Co.
2nd Place: $25 gift card to Mutts & Co.
3rd Place: $15 gift card to Mutts & Co.
Most Patriotic House Contest: Who says lights are only for Christmas? Pull out your red, white and/or blue lights, and let’s light up Brookside! No lights? Any patriotic decor will do, and we want to see it in all its glory! Prizes will be awarded to the three households with the most votes.
1st Place: $50 VISA gift card
2nd Place: $25 gift card to Borgata Pizza Cafe
3rd Place: $15 gift card to Borgata Pizza Cafe
Residents wishing to participate are asked to please keep all entries family-friendly. Also, only current photos will be accepted. No digging through the archives to find photos from years past.
To submit your contest entries, please visit this page (beginning June 21) and click on the heading of each contest to be taken to that contest page. When submitting your photo(s), please be sure to fill out the online form for each contest you enter. One photo per contest submission. Photos will be uploaded to the BCA contest pages daily with residents voting for their favorites beginning Friday, June 26 at 8pm through Sunday, June 28 at 10pm. Only Brookside residents are permitted to vote. Winners will be announced and notified on Monday, June 29.
But the fun doesn’t end there! On Friday, June 26 from 3:30-6:30pm, Phillips on Wheels food truck with be stationed in front of the school serving up their delicious hotdogs, coney dogs, burgers, sliders, sides and shakes for those interested in purchasing. And on Saturday, June 27 from 1:30-3:30pm, Graeter’s Ice Cream truck will be parked in front of the school scooping up their yummy ice cream for those wishing to purchase.
Lastly, you may have noticed that the BCA has begun including a charitable aspect at each event. We’d like to continue this going forward. The chosen charity and requested items for donating will likely change from one event to another once we are able to gather together again, but for now, we’re keeping things simple. We’ll be taking monetary donations online to be donated to the Smoky Row Food Pantry. This wonderful organization is helping to feed those in our immediate area, and we’d love to have you help us support them.
While our summer plans may be quite different this year, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating our neighborhood and the anniversary of our country’s independence!
If you’re able to donate – and no donation is too small, please use the form below.
